March 2008 Quarterly Meeting

We are pleased to announce that the First Quarter 2008 meeting of the Northwest Wireless Association will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.  Once again, the meeting will be held at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington.

Our featured Keynote Speaker is Chetan Sharma, Principal, Chetan Sharma Consulting.  Chetan has acted as a consultant to the top players in the wireless communications industry, and has appeared as an expert witness in high profile litigation.  Chetan will speak to us at the luncheon session about the future business opportunities in wireless communications, who the players will be in the new opportunities, and how they will impact the wireless network.  You can learn more about Chetan and his work at:  www.chetansharma.com

We will also offer three educational workshops:

Working with your Electric Utility Partners  9:00 am - 11:30 am

Representatives from Puget Sound Energy, Portland General Electric, Bonneville Power Administration, Snohomish County PUD, Seattle City Light (invited) and PacifiCorp (invited) are invited to educate on their processes and provide suggestions on how we can work together more efficiently.

We encourage you to submit questions to us in advance to: Suggestions@NWwireless.org so the utility representatives may review your questions before the meetings and be prepared to discuss them in detail.

Tower Climbing Safety Training  9:00 am - 11:30 am

Gravitech, a training services firm, will provide a training session on the new ANSI standards for tower climbing safety, including fall protection systems and competent rescuers.  Gravitech's President chaired the ANSI subcommittee that recently revised the ANSI standards.

Regulatory Workshop  1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Portland Franchise Ordinance.  Dave Soloos from the City of Portland's Office of Cable Communications and Franchise Management will join us to ask for feedback on the City's proposed revisions to its wireless communications facility ordinance.  Dave sincerely wants to help the City's residents and businesses by improving the quality of wireless communications services in the City while respecting neighborhood integrity and character.

Other Regulatory Matters.  We will also discuss current regulatory issues, including:

  • City of Sammamish recent code changes
  • City of Mountlake Terrace upcoming code re-write
  • Washington state legislation concerning PUD and municipal pole attachments
  • Oregon PUC and OJUA pole attachment proceedings
  • Washington State Board of Registration's proposed changes to licensing requirements for tower engineers
  • Lobbying cities and counties to improve siting hierarchy
  • Other issues as identified by the workshop participants

We hope you can join us at the meeting.  The registration fee for the meeting is $50 per person, which includes the luncheon and admission to the workshops.  You may register by sending an email message to Events@NWwireless.org before February 27, 2008.  Registrations fees may be paid in advance by check or credit card by contacting Darlyne DeMars at 206-340-9653.
